This segmented turning sculpture is made from the following types of wood: Wenge, Blood wood, Yellow heart and Birds eye Maple. The colors are the natural color of the various woods.
The segmented wood rings are carefully off-set during construction so that the patterns will evolve as you look at the piece from different sides. We think of this as intelligent design.

Looks like you found all the ancient lathe stuff that I had found years ago. I presently am building a rose lathe and plan to also build a very small version so it can be fastened to a seat as your bow lathe is. The small one will be like a unimat version of Bergeron of 1795 which will bring things up to the colony period.

Your sagmented piece “coat of many colours” is so beautiful and very touching by combining the colours with the name and music together I am a turner and will try and make the same piece keep up the wonderful work.
Question: do you have any plans or DV’s on how to make the bowl with the multiple colors. if you have it I am interested in buying it.

Beautiful work. I am just starting to get into segmented turning. I love what can be done with a few pieces of wood. I am self taught since there is no one close who can teach me. One day I hope to be good enough to do one like this. Keep turning George

This is a gorgeous piece. Thanks for the video as well. As a non-turner every time I see projects like this it moves a lathe higher up on my tool list. To tell you the truth I have only a rough idea how to produce a segmented turning but your video did help clarify some of the mystery for me.
